Akuamma is a seed of the Picralima tree (Picralima nitida), which is traditionally grown in tropical Africa (for example, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon). On the tree grow fruits containing a number of seeds. Dried seed was the basis of West African medicine in the treatment of pain, diarrhea and malaria.

Akuamma is a strong relaxant, relieves stress, relaxes overall and brings deep sleep. The active element is the indole alkaloid Akuammin, also known as vincamajoridine. Structurally, Akuammin is comparable to yohimbine and mitragynin, which is the major component of kratom.
